Dear Medical Professional:
Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease is a very rare, 100% fatal disease. Many physicians may only see a case once or twice during their years of practice. To help identify the symptoms and criteria for adding CJD to your differential diagnosis we have produced a 55 minute DVD consisting of a series of lectures, medical illustrations and a patient interview. We will send medical professionals a copy free of charge. Please contact us for a copy. The DVD will also be available soon via a link on our website. There is one CME credit offered by The University of Buffalo School of Medicine and BioSciences.
This website is aimed at both the family member and the medical professional. You can read and download a copy of our pamphlet Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease and Other Prion Diseases from thissection. You will find information concerning the symptoms of the various types of CJD in this pamphlet.
The third page of this section is a letter from our medical director, Dr. Pierluigi Gambetti concerning the importance of autopsy in the case of a suspected CJD patient. You can link to the National Prion Disease Pathology Surveillance Center's website at www.cjdsurveillance.com.
At present, there is one clinical trial available in the U.S. This information can be found on the fourth page.
